ACL rehabilitation in Standish, Wigan

Progressive rehabilitation before surgery, after surgery or during non-surgical recovery, built around your knee, goals and activities.

Who ACL rehabilitation can help

ACL rehabilitation may be suitable if you have a confirmed anterior cruciate ligament injury and need support preparing for surgery, rebuilding after an operation or following a non-surgical recovery plan.

How we approach it

We assess your current movement, strength, control, confidence and goals, then build a progressive plan around your stage of recovery. Where you are under a consultant or surgical team, rehabilitation follows the guidance and restrictions they have given you.

A plan built around your stage and goals

ACL recovery is not one identical programme for everyone. The right starting point and rate of progression depend on factors such as your symptoms, surgical or medical guidance, current strength and the demands you want to return to.

Your plan can connect early movement and control with progressive strength, running, change of direction and sport-specific work when each stage is appropriate.

What ACL rehabilitation may include

  • Pre-operative preparation Build movement, strength and confidence before surgery when this is part of your medical plan.
  • Post-operative progression Rehabilitation that respects the guidance and restrictions provided by your surgical team.
  • Non-surgical rehabilitation A progressive plan for people managing a confirmed ACL injury without surgery.
  • Lower-body strength Targeted work for the quadriceps, hamstrings, hips, calves and the wider movement chain.
  • Running and change of direction Step-by-step preparation for higher-speed and multidirectional demands when appropriate.
  • Return to sport or activity Rebuild the capacity and confidence needed for the activities that matter to you.

What to bring to your first appointment

If you have them, bring any consultant or surgical guidance, operation notes, rehabilitation restrictions and relevant scan or assessment information. This helps us understand your stage of recovery and coordinate your plan with the advice you have already received.

If your knee injury has not been diagnosed, start with an injury rehabilitation assessment so we can discuss the appropriate next step and refer you for medical assessment when needed.
